Troy Loses Tough One

RUBIO'S HOMERUN NOT ENOUGH

Troy traveled to Santa Ana to face Segerstrom’s Segura on Thursday, one of the better pitchers around. Both teams would play well and both pitchers (Fares and Segura) would be tough. Segerstrom would strike first with a homerun in second to take a 1-0 lead.  Jena Rubio would answer back with a crushing homerun over the leftfield fence to tie the game in the third.  The game stayed tied till the bottom of the sixth when Segerstrom loaded the bases with two outs.  Pula, of Segerstrom, would hit a hard ground ball up the middle.  It looked like a clean hit but Troy’s feisty second basemen, Bennett, made a brilliant play by diving up the middle, making the catch and the toss to Dani Applerose at second.  But the runner just beat the toss and Troy would fall to Segerstrom 3-1 in a tough fought game.  Troy had opportunities to score in the forth and fifth, leaving runners on at second both times, but would finish with six hits.  Troy’s record 6-6.  Rubio hit 2-3 with a homerun and a double.  Suto hit 2-3, Conrad hit 1-2 and Sam Mellano hit 1-3.
