Troy Goes 1-1 On The Day

GOES 2-2 IN SAVANNAH TOURAMENT

Troy’s first game on Saturday would match them up against Cal-High of Whittier where Lindsey Knoff, a former Troy/Long Beach State star pitcher, is an assistant coach.  Troy would not fair well in this game as Cal would win a non competitive 5-0 game.  Cal would throw a two hitter, a sharp single by Sam Mellano in the 2nd and one more added by Morgan Conrad in the fifth.  The defense had its share of miscues and Troy would fall to its former star player Knoff.

Troy’s final game of the day and its final game before spring break produced a win, though it did appear Troy was looking ahead to its break.  Troy beat Pomona Catholic in 8 innings 2-1.  Sara Fares pitched solid giving up just four hits while striking out nine.  The lone run for Pomona came in the eighth due to the international tie breaker rule.  The runner on second had advanced to third.  With two outs, Troy had tried to pick off the runner.  The runner broke for the plate and the relay was late and Pomona scored.  Bottom of the eighth, Alyssa Felipe on second, Sarah Fares laid down a good bunt advancing Felipe to third.  AD Cornejo would take first on a walk.  With Bennett up, Felipe would score on a wild pitch to tie the game.  Bennett would walk bringing up Applerose and Cornejo on at third, representing the winning run.  Applerose would pop the ball up where Pomona's SS would not handle the play and Troy won the game.

Troy’s record 8-7
