Troy Hosts Sunny Hills In League Opener
Sarah Fares Throws 1 hitter but Troy Loses
Troy and Sunny Hills opened the league season at Troy on Tuesday. It would be a very tough day for both offenses. Troy would have a couple of chances to get on the board. In the fourth Morgan Conrad would single to lead off the inning. AD Cornejo would lay down a sacrifice bunt. The Sunny Hills pitcher fielded the ball and trying to get the lead runner committed an error. Troy had first and second and nobody out. Fares and Felipe could not advance the runners and Bennett would strikeout to end the inning. Troy again would have a chance to score in the sixth when Jena Rubio would hit a triple off the centerfielder glove who made diving attempt with 2 outs. Sam Mellano would get a free pass putting runners on the corners. CJ Taitano would pop up to first base to end the inning.
Sarah Fares pitched a great game keeping the Sunny Hills batters off the bases issuing only two walks through six innings. No Sunny Hills runners would reach second base. Fares was truely in control. But in the seventh Fares would make her only mistake of the day which resulted in a Sunny Hills homerun to end the game 1-0. Fares pitched great today, giving up one hit and one run. “I'll take a performance like that every game.” coach Buttram said. “We must find a way to score some runs and not waste a great pitching performance.” the coach added. Troy’s defense was flawless as well. |
