Fullerton Tops Troy In 8th

It would be another tough loss for Troy on Tuesday at Fullerton High.  It was a game Troy needed to win to keep CIF playoff hopes alive.  Though still alive, the road is all up hill.  Lindsey Rains would put Fullerton on the scoreboard, in the first inning with a homer deep to right, to give Fullerton a 1-0 lead.

Troy would get solid pitching from Sarah Fares and flawless defense through seven.  Victoria Guillroy would open the sixth with a solid base hit to left.  After a strikeout Bennett would advance Guillroy to second with a sacrifice bunt.  Sam Mellano would hit the ball in the hole at shortstop.  As the shortstop fielded the ball she elected to throw to third to catch the runner advancing.  The ball would get away from the third baseman and Guillroy raced home with the tying run.

Both teams had fairly easy innings in the seventh sending this game into extra innings.  Troy would not score in top of the eighth.  Fullerton, batting in the bottom of the eighth, had they're leadoff batter reach on an error.  The runner advanced to second on a sacrifice bringing up Fullerton’s leadoff batter.  She connected driving the ball to the fence for a double.  Troy caught a break when the Fullerton base runner elected to tag and could not score as Jena Rubio fired it back into the infield.  Rains was intentionally walked loading the bases.  With a drawn in infield Fullerton caught a big break.  The Fullerton batter would pop up, just on the grass, and neither the second baseman nor the Troy’s centerfielder could catch the ball and the game was over.
